Parents & Scouts:
This is a friendly reminder that Troop 101 has a NO ELECTRONICS policy for Summer Camp.
Scouts are NOT to bring any type of electronic devices with them to camp. Period. Those items need to just stay at home. This includes but is not limited to: CELL PHONES, PDAs, CELL PHONES, MP3 players, CELL PHONES, Kindles, CELL PHONES, portable gaming devices (DS, PSP, etc), CELL PHONES, i-anything (pod, pad, phone, etc), laptops, CELL PHONES… or anything else you or they can think of.
DO NOT send a cell phone along for them to use as a camera or a flashlight. If they really want to take pictures, get them a disposable kind from the store, or send along an old one of yours. Holding lights in your hands really isn’t the best thing in the woods anyway – headlamps are much better. CELL PHONES are electronic devices, and are NOT allowed. They are not cameras. They are not flashlights.
If there is an EMERGENCY situation in camp involving your son, we will contact you.
If there is an emergency situation at HOME and YOU need to contact your son – please call the camp office at (812) 837-9423 and they will get in contact with Mr. Smith or myself and we will put your son in touch with you. The only exceptions to the cell phone policy are that I will have my cell phone with me, in my car, and will check messages once per day (I will NOT have it ON all day, nor will I be carrying it around with me – it will be left in the car. (217) 416-6140
IF A SCOUT DOES bring a phone or other kind of electronic device with them and are caught – YOU will be notified to come and pick them up that very day. They will be going home, and it doesn’t matter who it is. There is no preferential treatment, and it is a ZERO TOLERANCE policy. There is NO NEED to bring cell phones or electronics in the first place. Leave them at home. DO NOT send them with instructions to keep them hidden – just leave them at HOME.
Parents, we really need and ask your support in this, and that you respect and not undermine the Troop’s policy regarding electronics. When you do that, you also undermine at least two of the points of the Scout Law that the boys have learned, recite at each meeting, and should be living by daily… A Scout is Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean, and Reverent. This isn’t just a no electronics rule – but it’s also about Youth Protection. There’s just too much available 24/7 online via smartphones and other electronic devices that we simply do not need to deal with at camp. PLEASE JUST LEAVE THEM HOME.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Yours in Scouting,
Mr. Hunt Summer Camp Director
