In case you missed it….Monday night at the Troop I shared during the announcements that the FIRECRAFTER 2020 season is getting ready to begin.
IF you are a Woodsman and are interested in becoming a Firecrafter… or IF you are an older Scout getting ready to age out and have never completed Firecrafter but would really like to… the 2020 Firecrafter Class is getting ready to open up. For the oldest Scouts getting ready to age out, remember that you become an Adult in the Troop at 18, but you are still considered a Youth in Firecrafter until you turn 21. There is still time for you if you haven’t done it in years past.
2020 is the 100th Anniversary of Firecrafter and a very special year to achieve it! There will be special patches and commemorative items only available this year… so if you want to do it, do consider it!
SOMETIME THIS WEEK, the registration link will open up via TroopTrack. Once it is open any Woodsman or about to age out Scout who hasn’t completed Firecrafter due to a variety of factors from their Scouting career may register their DESIRE TO BE A CANDIDATE. This form does NOT secure your spot but does register your desire and lets us know that you are willing to commit to all of the requirements for being a Candidate. We do check the timestamps, as the order of completion does give priority but we only have 9 available slots and will award them giving consideration to both the registration order AND age factor as well. Scouts who are closer to 13 will absolutely have additional opportunities in the future if not this year. Sometimes waiting a year or two is in the Scouts’ best interest as the candidacy can be much more challenging than you might realize.
For all those who are going to Summer Camp this year and have earned Camper previously, we encourage you to go for Woodsman this year at Summer Camp so that you too might go for Firecrafter in the coming years. For everyone else who hasn’t yet earned Camper, we will encourage you as well to pursue it this year at camp.
